Did that title get your attention? I hope so. Because today I'm going to talk to you about, in my opinion, one of the most stress relieving and exhilarating experiences you could possibly...erm...experience. That particular activity happens to be.....going for walks in the city! Whether it be during the day, when you're surrounded by people and the city itself seems to be in overdrive, or at night, when the city is all lit up and it's just you and your iPod. Yes, it's fun going for a walk in the park, but if gets a bit repetitive, doesn't it? Same damn tree, same damn spot, same damn bird poo on your car when you get back to it. But when your in the city, everyday is different. You might see a guy with his hood up listening to his mp3 player and it gives you just that little boost of inspiration you needed to draw something. You might even see a homeless person having a seizure or yelling at a random stranger; perfect opportunity to whip out your camera and post a new funny on Youtube. Everything from all the lights to the occasional graffiti, the city is a very lovely place to visit.
Usually I wouldn't be able to relate, as I don't walk the city to often. Though, recent assignment has sent me walking the city streets. I must say, it has a certain appeal. In contrast to wildlife (which is what I'm used to), it feels jagged, full of angles and lines. One of the biggest differences for me is the growth! Buildings lower to the ground are larger, as the taller ones thin out as they touch the skyline. Nature, on the other hand, grows lavishly once it hits the horizon after starting at a slimmer base.
ReplyDeleteOver all, I love city lights! The booming colors that come out at night are awesome. Even more so when it is raining. Something about the lights reflecting off every surface while the sky and space around them are so dark.
believe it or not, i was influenced by a videogame. (of course) the world ends with you, for the nintendo ds, made me a bit more curious about the city. and the whole theme of the game was appreciate the smaller things in life; I've always loved the city, but that game made me love it even more.
